Jamie, a 10-year-old country boy, who has grown up with his step brother Will, struggles with not only the impending divorce of their parents but the grief of the potential loss of the only sibling he has ever known.
From the Director, Ben J. Read: A Step Apart is a film that I planned on creating for over 5 years, and because of that bringing this story to life has been the most fulfilling journey of my life thus far. Influenced by my personal true story, the process of making this film involved tapping into my past and reflecting on past memories, emotions and situations. The story explores childhood trauma, the vulnerability of children, and the weight of responsibility that children place on themselves. At its heart, the film encapsulates the divide between the bond of blood and the bonds of true love. Shooting in the incredible town of Toora, Victoria over 5 days, the shoot was an emotional whirlwind as I got to see a story I've been working on for so long come together. It was a privilege being able to work with such an incredible and talented cast and crew that shared the same passion for the story as myself, and I can’t wait to show this film to the world.
